MORE ABOUT FIREWOOD

Australia has an abundance of firewood sources (both softwood and hardwood varieties) across the country. Much of the firewood, once seasoned (dried), makes for excellent burning in whatever situation you are using it in. Once a tree is cut and milled, it's usually left for a year to season, so by the time it's ready for use, all the moisture has dried out.

Harvesting capacity and high rainfall are often issues with firewood supply and availability. It's not uncommon for some suppliers to stockpile their firewood a year ahead, both to combat the supply and demand issue, plus allowing time for the wood to season.

WHAT IS THE BEST FIREWOOD?

Hardwood varieties, due to the density of the wood, heat output and slow burn time are the best types of wood to use for your fire. Australia happens to be blessed with many excellent hardwood varieties, most coming from the Eucalyptus and Myrtle families, which usually means gum trees. Hardwoods will vary from state to state, and local supply is dictated by the source that is closest to them.
